Ned Moore, Director/Translator

Ned Moore is a teacher,  translator, and theater artist currently living in New Orleans. He completed his BA in Classics and Comparative Literature at Bard College (’13), with special focus on the study of ancient drama. His translation of Euripides’ Bakkhai first premiered at Bard in Spring 2013 (Dir. Lileana Blain-Cruz, Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Theater Two).  His recent work includes original music compositions for Sophocles’ Antigone (Dir. Joanna Russo, Old Marquer Theatre), and dramaturgy for Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Dir. Nathaniel Kusinitz, Tigermen Den). He will be pursuing an MFA in Dramaturgy at Columbia University in the City of New York this fall.

Elizabeth Gross, Producer/Translator

Elizabeth Gross grew up in New Orleans and returned most recently in 2012, after completing her MFA in poetry at Hunter College. She currently teaches writing and interdisciplinary humanities classes at Bard Early College. She earned her BA at Vassar College, where she studied English Literature and Classics. During her time at Vassar, she translated excerpts of Euripides’ Suppliant Women and served as dramaturg for an experimental performance combining Greek tragedy with Beckett’s “Not I”. She continues to incorporate translations of ancient texts into her poetry and art installations. Her poems have recently appeared in the Fairy Tale Review, Painted Bride Quarterly, LEVELER, and The Queer South, an anthology from Sibling Rivalry Press.

Ann Glaviano, Dance Facilitator/Chorus Leader

A native New Orleanian, Ann is the director of Known Mass, a collaborative music-and-dance project aesthetically motivated by devised theatre and DIY punk traditions. She has pursued her dance studies across the US and abroad at the Ailey School, BalletMet, and María del Puerto Escuela de Danza, and received an MFA in creative writing with an interdisciplinary minor in dance from The Ohio State University. She has studied contemporary improvisation forms with Jesse Zaritt, Karl Rogers, and Eric Nordstrom, and hosts contact improv jams through Known Mass. Recent concert performance credits include productions by New Orleans Ballet Theatre, New Orleans Opera Association, the Narcisse|Movement Project, Lightwire Theater, and Short North Stage. She has performed both choreographed and improvised work for commercial clients such as Hannibal Buress, Southwest Airlines, and the Mystic Krewe of Hermes. Ann is a featured dancer in Le Pain, a dance film directed by Meryl Murman and an official selection of the 2015 St. Tropez International Film Festival.

Tucker Fuller, Composer

New Orleans-based composer Tucker Fuller (b.1980) writes music for both conventional and unconventional spaces. He is a frequent collaborator with poet Megan Levad. Tucker and Megan write song cycles for dark and divey venues. His music has also been played by the Albany Symphony, the New Resonance Orchestra, the Da Capo Chamber Players, and the American Symphony. He studied with composers Joan Tower, Christopher Theofanidis, Evan Chambers, Bright Sheng, and Michael Daugherty, and holds degrees from Bard College (B.A.), Peabody Institute (M.M.A.), and the University of Michigan (D.M.A).

Jana Fredricks, Production Manager

Jana Fredricks is an artist and producer recently returned home to New Orleans after seven years in New York City. Since graduating from New York University with a BFA in Drama in 2010, she has produced interdisciplinary works (Emille, Baryshnikov Arts Center), theater (24 Hour Plays Broadway; FAMILY, Signature Studio Theatre; Facing Our Truth, The Marigny Theatre), film (Mateo’s Room, Madrid International Film Festival, Lonestar Film Festival; Somebody, Jukebox the Ghost), and artist advocacy events (ARTwerk NYC). In November of 2013 Jana co-founded and produced a monthly off-Broadway short-form play festival at INTAR Theatre, called American Nightcap.

Jesse LaVercombe, Actor 

Jesse LaVercombe is a Toronto-based actor and writer originally from Minneapolis. He has acted professionally in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Fredericton, Minneapolis, New Orleans, and New York City. He toured Canada with Red Sky Performance and the American East Coast with the nautical Caravan Stage Company. His first solo show,Preacher Man (published by Indie Theatre Now, NYC), played across Canada and in NYC. He was also the composer for the musical The Life of Jude (published by Scirocco Drama, Winnipeg, MB), which premiered at Toronto’s SummerWorks Festival 2013. His second solo show, Love Me Forever Billy H. Tender, will be presented this fall in Toronto. Training: The National Theatre School of Canada

Evan Spigelman, Actor

Evan Spigelman is a performer, director, light designer, co-founder of New Orleans performance collective Skin Horse Theater and co-founder of LOUD: New Orleans Queer Youth Theater. In 2013, Evan served as a core organizer with the New Orleans Fringe Festival. Outside of New Orleans, Evan has worked with the Ontological Hysteric Theater and Incubator Arts Project in New York City and the Design Wing of the Great Plains Theater Conference in Omaha, Nebraska. He has a B.A. from Bard College in History and Gender and Sexuality Studies and has studied at the Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture, and Society at the University of Amsterdam. From time to time, Evan can also be seen stalking around New Orleans as his alter ego, Ms. Asa Metric. Recent performance credits include Creep Cuts (Mz. Asa), Nocturnes I-III (Astronaut/Ensemble), The Last Snuff Film I Ever Saw… (Theime), The Lily’s Revenge (Lily, Big Easy Award Nominee), The Hunting of the Snark (Banker),SARAH (Caleb), Curiouser: An Historical Innacuracy (Alice Liddell) and Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Hedwig, Big Easy Award Winner).

Saskia Hofman, Dancer

After graduating from the Rotterdam Academy of Dance (Netherlands), Saskia Hofman represented the Netherlands in the European Scholarship Program of Contemporary Dance in Vienna (Austria). She danced in many productions, such as Jan Fabre (Belgium) and the Bremer Theater/Operahaus (Germany). She directed and choreographed many youth musical theatre productions. As a teacher in modern and contemporary dance she has been teaching and coaching for many years, nationally and internationally, e.g. at the Academy of Dance of Damascus (Syria).

Kevin Macku, Dancer

Kevin Macku is pleased to be making his New Orleans stage debut with Bakkhai! He earned his BFA in Dramatic Performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. He has devised theater for CCM’s Transmigration series (47 Bottles in a Lake, Barren), the Cincinnati Fringe Festival, (It Might Be Okay, Mater Facit), and the Human Race Theater (Seven Jewish Children). Other credits include Plato in Clearstage Cincinnati’s Rebel Without a Cause and Jon in the independent film Home, as well as multiple regional radio and TV commercials.

Kylie Arceneaux, Dancer

Kylie Arceneaux is interested in everything. She is a chorus member for this production of the Bakkhai.  Most recently, she played “Laurel” in Oxblood by NewNoise and danced as a “Witch” in an except of Skinhorse Theatre’s Macbeth.  She helps with the production of The Goodnight Show and volunteers for WWOZ.  She graduated from the MS School of the Arts and Bard College.  She is in love with the Crescent City and loves to love.

Tess Losada, Dancer

Tess Losada is a professional dancer and Pilates instructor enjoying her first year in New Orleans. She graduated from Illinois State University in 2014 with a B.A. in Dance Performance, and a B.A. in Recreation Management, with a French minor. After graduation, she moved to New Orleans to intern for Hope Stone New Orleans, a local non-profit arts organization. Tess dances professionally with Good Dance, led by artistic director Donna Crump. When she isn’t dancing, Tess enjoys wandering around City Park, eating chocolate croissants, and spending time with her parents and boyfriend.

Kira Matica, Dancer

Kira has been performing in experimental productions for over a decade. She has appeared on stage with numerous theatre companies including; Poison Apple Collective in Austin, Skin Horse Theatre and Heart Hustle Collective in New Orleans, and Galli Fairytale Theatre Company in New York. In addition to those on stage, Kira has played many roles off stage. In collaboration with an array of independent artists, she has written, produced and directed the stage pieces Quinta Essentia and Hazards of Fortune and Fame as well as the short film Bad Egg.  Currently, she is creating a new piece,Juxtapose, to be presented at the Parse Gallery this June. In the fall, she will be attending UT Austin for an MFA in film.

Philip von Maltzahn, Cello

Cellist Philip von Maltzahn studied at Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music, where his principal teachers were Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi , Janos Starker, and Steven Doane. He was the cellist of the Degas Quartet from 2002 until 2009, and Assistant Principal Cello of Greensboro Symphony from 2006 until 2011. A passionate music educator and cello teacher, Philip has taught cello and coached chamber music at the Eastman School of Music, Syracuse University, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Furman University, and Appalachian State University. He taught traditional strings and chamber music at the Levine School of Music in Washington, DC from 20011 until 2013. Philip recently moved to New Orleans and is an active musician and teacher in the Crescent City’s vibrant musical culture. He currently teaches cello and string ensemble at the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music and teaches private students at Crescent City Cello.

Otto Schrang, Percussion

Born in New Orleans, Otto Schrang grew up along the Gulf Coast before returning home to study music at Loyola University. Sparked by his father’s drumming, he started playing in the middle school band, and continued to develop his percussion skills in high school drumline. He immersed himself in orchestral percussion at Loyola, and, with guidance from professors Jim Atwood and David Salay, graduated in 2012 with a degree in Music Performance. After graduation, Schrang moved to the Bywater, where he now resides with his cat and private percussion studio. Otto is a member of Mike Dillon’s New Orleans Punk Rock Percussion Consortium, and enjoys playing jazz and rock on the vibraphone, as well as ragtime xylophone. He performs regularly with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gulf Coast Symphony and the New Orleans Volunteer Orchestra.

Mary Townsend, Soprano

Mary Townsend is a teacher, musician, and writer who lives in New Orleans. A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, she studied at St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD, in their Great Books program, where she founded the Renaissance polyphony group Primum Mobile. She holds an M.A. in Philosophy from The Catholic University of America and has trained to teach music in the Kodály method at McNeese State University. While in living in DC, she worked with early-music specialist Thomas Busch at the Deutsche Schule, and Owen Burdick of the Church of the Ascension and St. Agnes. Currently, she teaches in the Honors Program and Philosophy Department at Tulane University. Mary grew up singing alongside her sister, with whom she has performed Tucker Fuller’s song cycles Murder, Love, and Labor, the last of which premiered in 2014 at the Marigny Opera House. Mary’s most recent collaboration with Fuller was a January 2015 performance with Musaica, the chamber music group associated with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra; she sang E. Cumming’s adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “Ballad of the Reading Gaol.” Her vocal style is influenced by early music and old country music. Her two small children, Frank and Henry, are her most devoted and critical workshop audience.
